I’m not big on reading instruction manuals, but this is one product where you should. Stay tuned.I bought this item for ambiance – fire without the smoke of wood. I didn’t buy it for heat, and I haven’t used it in an enclosed space. Not enough heat is radiated toward the front to be effective as an outdoor fireplace on a deck or other open area. Most of the heat rises out of the top. In a tent or other enclosed area, I’m sure it would be an effective heater. I’m satisfied with it. Be sure to read all ventilation requirements before using the fireplace in an enclosed space. However:I was a bit puzzled as to how to attach the handle until I discovered that it has removable end caps that expose holes for the mounting screws. The supplied screwdriver has an interchangeable shaft with Phillips head on one end and flat blade on the other. When I used it to install the handle with the Phillips screws, I needed so much downward pressure to get the screws to seat that the shaft sunk into the handle. I had to use my own driver to install it. The flat blade side worked better for the screws that hod the glass in place. There is a groove in the front and back of the “log” that has what looks like a fiberglass rope running through it that makes the flame look more realistic. The unit arrived with the rope out of the groove. They supply a “complimentary” wire tool for use in tucking it back in. It’s long enough to use to try getting it back in the groove with the front glass in place. Don’t waste your time doing that. It will be frustrating, as the tool keeps snagging rope filaments and pulling it back out. Hidden in the parts list section are the instructions that tell you to remove the front glass to adjust the rope. Another part of the manual talks about adjusting the rope but doesn’t mention removing the glass. The manual could be better.Update: I wanted to see how well it would heat an enclosed space, so I turned it on high in an unheated 8′ x 8′ wooden shed. On a breezy 44 degree day with the door cracked an inch for combustion air, the temperature in the shed rose to 60 degrees in twenty minutes. I stopped the test at that point as I was able to smell some of the combustion by-products and that made me feel uncomfortable as I suffer from asthma. I feel that for indoor heat, there are better alternatives, but that’s not why I bought it.
