Usage Bonqat® is administered orally as a single dose of 0.1 ml/kg (5 mg/kg bodyweight) approximately 1.5 hours before the start of the transportation or the planned vet visit. Can be administered either directly into the mouth, or mixed with a small amount of food. Large amounts of food may delay the onset of effect. How does Bonqat® work? Contains Pregabalin 50mg/ml. Pregabalin is a structural analogue of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) neurotransmitter. It binds to the alpha-2-delta subunit of the voltage-gated calcium channel in the central nervous system. This binding reduces the release of excitatory neurotransmitters like glutamate, thereby alleviating anxiety and its symptoms3. The mechanism of action is similar to gabapentin, but pregabalin is more potent2, and its absorption is faster and elimination half-life longer in cats.1, 2
